Video spotlight: Brook Trout and Caddis Flies

One of the best experiences a fly angler can have is a stay at a remote fishing lodge, be it somewhere in the Rockies or the Adirondaks, or even as far-flung as Alaska or the Canadian north woods. I've had the pleasure of staying at lodges in the far north while chasing pike, walleye, lake trout, grayling and trophy brook trout. I absolutely love the pace of lodge life.

Brook Trout & Caddis Flies - Wapus Lodge Quebec

And, I love that formulaic old TV show, The New Fly Fisher, that often chronicles experiences at off-the-beaten path Canadian fishing lodges. The New Fly Fisher is sort of old-school, the kind of show you might have expected on Saturday mornings 20 years ago, featuring a host, a lodge owner and a guide as they kind of walk you through the whole experience of staying somewhere remote with great fishing, great food and amazing scenery.

In the video above, The New Fly Fisher chronicles a fishing adventure for Quebec brook trout at Wapus Lodge, a drive-to destination, but still one that's quite a ways off the well-traveled path. The show has all the trappings of a great Canadian lodge stay, and it makes me want to head north again as soon the ice is out.
